Use this engaging CVC bundle of resources to teach your beginning readers and writers to blend and write CVC words.

Once students know their letter sounds, they can start blending them together into words. CVC words or words with 3 phonemes are relatively easy to segment and blend, so they are perfect for children beginning to read, write and spell.

• 2 full sets of cards. A set containing 66 CVC picture prompt cards and a set containing 66 letter cards. Each set also contains 24 BONUS cards containing basic digraphs /sh/ch/ and /th/ for a little extension.

HOW TO USE THE PICTURE PROMPT CARDS

I like the students to write their CVC words onto personal whiteboards but they could be recorded on paper.

1. Give each student a CVC picture prompt card to place at the top of their whiteboard.

2. The students then point to each picture on their card and say the corresponding initial sounds.

3. Then the students write the matching letter symbols under each of the three pictures.

4. The sounds are said again, this time blending them into a word.

HOW TO USE THE LETTER CARDS

1. The student chooses a card and places it in front of them.

2. Then the student points to each picture on the card and says the corresponding initial letter sound.

3. Next the student finds matching letter symbols (magnetic letters of letter tiles) and places them in each of the boxes under the pictures.

4. The sounds are said again, this time blending them into a word

HOW TO USE THE POWERPOINT

The first slide in the PowerPoint contains 3 pictures. Students write or say the corresponding initial sound for each picture. The second self-correcting slide reveals the correct CVC word with a matching picture.

USE THE POWERPOINT FOR WRITING CVC WORDS: Students write each CVC word onto a whiteboard or paper as they progress through the presentation. Following each 3-picture prompt slide, is a slide revealing the written CVC word for children to self correct their writing.

USE THE POWERPOINT TO PRACTICE BLENDING: Students orally sound out and blend the initial sound of each picture to make and say CVC words. This PowerPoint is an excellent warm-up activity for your literacy block or rotations.
