Why Use Inspiring Quotes in Your Preschool Classroom?
As a preschool and kindergarten teacher, I know how important it is to create a positive and inspiring learning environment—both for me and my students. One way I like to do this is by using classroom quotes. The right quote can inspire both educators AND students.
Using inspiring quotes in a preschool classroom is an effective way to create a positive and encouraging learning environment for you and your young children. These quotes can
inspire a small child to be their best self
help develop a growth mindset
and encourage students to persevere through challenges.
The right quote can be your most powerful weapon.
The Power of Words in the Classroom
Words have an incredible power to influence mood and behaviour.
In a preschool setting, where children are just beginning to understand and navigate their emotions, positive and encouraging words can have a big impact. Here’s why incorporating quotes into your classroom can be a game-changer:
Encouragement: Simple, uplifting messages can boost a child's confidence and willingness to try new things.
Connection: Quotes can serve as conversation starters, helping build relationships and a sense of community.
Learning: Thought-provoking quotes can spark curiosity and foster a love for learning.
The best way teachers can create a visually appealing classroom that inspires students to learn is by displaying inspirational quotes. A good quote is not only inspirational but can also reinforce key concepts and values in early childhood education.
For example, Maria Montessori’s idea that "Play is the work of the child" emphasises the importance of play in the learning process. Quotes like these highlight the whole purpose of education, focusing on the work of the child and the development of lifelong skills.
Quotes can also enhance the teaching of social skills and creative expression. By integrating quotes into classroom lessons, discussions, and learning activities, teachers can foster a love of learning and inspire young students to reach their full potential.
Displaying education quotes that speak to the importance of the preschool years and the whole child helps create a sense of community and supports the overall development of our little ones.
Quotes are great tools for informing and educating others too. What better way to tell parents and other educators about the benefits of play-based learning.
A quote can also offer a sneak peek into your educational philosophy and can clear up misconceptions regarding the importance of play in early childhood education.
Many of my learning through play quotes align with hands-on, investigative learning and free play so they are perfect for educators who value this type of age appropriate pedagogy.
Communication is key in a preschool classroom. Quotes serve as excellent conversation starters. They help to clarify the most important work we do as educators and can inspire great things in our young students.
For teachers, the right words can be a source of motivation and inspiration. One of the main reasons I use educational quotes in my classroom and throughout my planning documents is to
remind me of my goals
reinforce my teaching philosophy and my why
keep me positive, on track, and inspired.
Don't Forget the Environment is the Third Teacher
I believe preschool classrooms need to be decorated with both the child and the teacher in mind. After all, this is a place where you all spend a lot of time, so it needs to not only be a nice place to work but it should also reflect the classroom community as a whole.
Using beautiful quotes can help you create the perfect classroom environment and get the third teacher working for you. Do you know that the classroom environment is your third teacher?
In the Reggio Emilia approach, the environment is considered the third teacher. This philosophy emphasises the importance of a thoughtfully designed space that encourages exploration, discovery, and learning.
By incorporating inspirational quotes into your classroom decor, you are enhancing this environment, making it more conducive to the emotional and intellectual growth of your students.

15 Creative Ways to Display Quotes in Your Preschool Classroom
I have seen the powerful impact quotes can have in the preschool classroom. That's why I love finding creative ways to display them.
Here are 15 of my favourite display ideas:
Create a Quote Wall
If you have the space, dedicate an entire classroom wall to a collection of inspiring quotes. Use a mix of colours and fonts to make it visually appealing. I like to border my learning intention wall with quotes. It makes a great visual reminder for the students throughout the week.
2. On the Classroom Door
I always have an inspiring quote to welcome students and their families. You might like to display a new quote each week or term. Reading a displayed quote on the classroom door is a lovely way to start the day.
3. Make Quote Posters
I have quite a collection of quotes on posters. They don’t have to be big posters. Most of mine are A4 document size but I do have a few printed in a larger A3 size. When you have a collection of inspiring quotes printed as posters, you’ll have a quick and easy way to decorate your classroom or learning areas.
4. Use Chalkboards
You don’t have to print out a quote to reap the benefits. Use a chalkboard or a chalkboard-painted area of the wall to write out your favourite inspiring quotes.
5. Decorate Clipboards
Attach a clipboard to the wall and decorate it with a printed quote. You might like to add a few design elements like
dried flowers or leaves
a piece of jute string tied to the top of the clipboard
patterned washi tape to frame the edges of the clipboard or create a border
children’s art work or doodles to really personalise it.
6. In Your Teacher Diary and Through Your Planning Documents
I must say my planning documents contain many quotes. These documents are great places to add a little something to keep me inspired and motivated.
7. Create a Quote Banner
Use a string or ribbon to create a banner that displays a selection of inspiring quotes. Hang it above a reading nook or along the edge of a bulletin board.
8. At Investigation and Learning Centers
Display relevant quotes at different learning centers to inspire curiosity and engagement in specific activities.
9. Use Classroom Quotes in Morning Meetings
During morning meetings, read an inspiring quote and ask the students to share what it means to them or how it relates to their lives.
10. Create Quote Art
Encourage your students to get involved in creating an inspiring classroom. Add plain quotes to your art area and invite the kids to use coloured paper, markers, and other collage materials to create artwork featuring the inspiring quotes. Then you can hang their art around the classroom. This is great for creating a co-constructed learning environment and will give your students a sense of ownership and pride in their classroom.
11. Use Post-it Notes
Write inspiring quotes on post-it notes and place them on student desks, the classroom door, or other prominent locations.
12. Decorate Picture Frames
I am always on the hunt for beautiful picture frames to display my inspiring quotes. You can often pick up great frames from op shops or discount stores. I like natural wood frames, but I have seen some teachers make lovely frames by painting or decorating them to match their classroom decor.
13. Use Magnets
If you have metal surfaces around your classroom, you can make a super quick and easy display by adding adhesive magnetic strips or magnets to the back of your printed quotes.
14. Create a Quote Tree
Cut out paper leaves and write inspiring quotes on them. Attach the leaves to a tree branch with small clothes pegs for a beautiful classroom feature.
15. Create Quote Blocks
Use wooden blocks or cardboard to create blocks featuring inspiring quotes. Stack them on shelves or display them on a windowsill.
16. Make a Quote Book
Create a small book or journal filled with inspiring quotes. During circle time, read a quote to the class and discuss its meaning and relevance. Then, place the quote book in the classroom library so that students can revisit the quotes and be inspired by them.
There are many creative ways to display inspiring quotes in a preschool classroom. From creating a quote wall to creating a quote book, these displays can help you create a positive and inspiring learning environment for your students.

The Benefits of Using Inspiring Quotes in Preschool
Using inspiring quotes in your preschool classroom offers numerous benefits that can positively impact you and your students. Here are some amazing things a good quote can do:
Promotes a Positive and Uplifting Environment
Inspiring quotes can help create a positive and encouraging atmosphere in the classroom. An uplifting environment benefits young children by fostering a sense of well-being, which we all know is essential for effective learning. For preschool teachers, a positive classroom atmosphere goes a long way in enhancing job satisfaction and reducing stress.
Encourages Critical Thinking and Discussion
By using thought-provoking quotes in lesson plans, preschool teachers can encourage students to think deeply and critically about a variety of topics. Quotes from influential figures like Maria Montessori and Ralph Waldo Emerson can stimulate discussions that promote critical thinking and reflective learning. It's amazing how a quote can help you promote these important life skills.
Fosters a Sense of Community
Using inspiring quotes that promote kindness, inclusivity, and empathy helps create a sense of community in the classroom. When students feel safe, supported, and valued, they are more likely to engage positively with their peers and teachers. This sense of classroom community is crucial for developing social skills and fostering a collaborative learning environment.
Enhances Learning and Retention
Quotes related to the lesson or topic being taught can enhance learning and retention among preschoolers. By linking quotes to specific themes or subjects, teachers can reinforce key concepts and make learning more memorable. This approach aligns with the principle of teaching the whole child by integrating emotional and cognitive development.
Improves Language and Literacy Skills
Reading and discussing inspiring quotes can help improve language and literacy skills in preschoolers. As young children encounter new vocabulary and practise their reading comprehension, they develop essential literacy skills that form the foundation for future academic success. Quotes can also introduce young children to the beauty of language and the power of words.
Boosts Motivation and Self-Esteem
Inspiring quotes can help boost motivation and self-esteem among preschoolers. When children are encouraged to believe in themselves and their abilities through motivational quotes, they are more likely to take risks and persevere through challenges. This boost in self-esteem can lead to greater academic achievement and a love of learning.
Sparks Creative Expression
A quote is great for opening doors to new ideas. They can serve as a catalyst for creative expression in the classroom. Preschool teachers can use quotes as prompts for art projects, storytelling, and other creative activities.
This not only enhances students' creative skills but also provides an opportunity for them to explore new things and express their thoughts and feelings in new ways. A quote can broaden a child's mind and thinking.
Provides a Connection to Real-World Ideas
Using quotes from well-known figures and diverse cultures helps young children connect classroom learning to the broader world. This exposure to different perspectives and philosophies enriches their understanding and appreciation of various ideas and promotes a more inclusive and well-rounded education.
Keeps You Motivated as a Teacher
Teaching is a challenging profession and hard work. Staying motivated is important (and sometimes difficult). Inspirational quotes can serve as daily reminders of why you chose this path, helping you stay positive and focused on your goals. They provide the encouragement needed to navigate the ups and downs of teaching and can even help to remind you of the impact you have on little minds.
Informs Others About Your Philosophy
Quotes displayed in the classroom can communicate your educational philosophy to parents, colleagues, and visitors. Displaying quotes about the importance of play, the value of a growth mindset, and the significance of hands-on learning can help others understand and appreciate your approach to teaching.
Creates a Visually Pleasing Environment
Aesthetics play a vital role in creating an inviting classroom atmosphere. Using quotes styled with beautiful photographic images can enhance the visual appeal of your classroom.
